8 militants killed in Pak-Afghan border clash

RAWALPINDI: Security forces have thwarted an infiltration attempt by militants at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces detected movement of a group of militants on the night of April 5-6.

The militants were trying to infiltrate through the Pak-Afghanistan border in the general area of Hassan Khel, North Waziristan district. "Own troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate. After an intense exchange of fire, eight Khwarij [terrorists] were sent to hell, while four khwarij got injured," the ISPR added.

This incident highlights the ongoing security concerns at the Pak-Afghan border. Pakistan has consistently urged the interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border. "Interim Afghan government is expected to fulfill its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by Khwarij for perpetuating acts of terrorism against Pakistan," the ISPR added.

Meanwhile, a sanitisation operation was being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area. "Security forces are determined and remain committed to secure its borders and wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country," the ISPR stated.

The Pak-Afghan border has been a source of concern for Pakistan, with the country facing numerous security challenges. The border spans over 2,500 kilometers, making it difficult to manage. Pakistan has urged Afghanistan to prevent its soil from being used by groups such as the TTP to carry out attacks inside Pakistan.

The incident is a reminder of the security challenges faced by Pakistan. The country has been working to strengthen its security forces and improve border management. The ISPR has stated that security forces are determined and remain committed to securing the borders and wiping out the menace of terrorism.

A recent report submitted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team revealed a nexus between Kabul and the TTP. The report stated that the TTP has been receiving logistical, operational, and financial support from Kabul.

The security situation in Pakistan has been a concern, with a sharp increase in terror attacks in January 2025. According to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), at least 74 militant attacks were recorded nationwide, resulting in 91 fatalities.
