KABUL: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated on Saturday that Afghanistan has assured Pakistan its territory will not be used for activities against its neighbor.

Speaking to the media during his visit to Kabul, Dar emphasized mutual respect and cooperation, saying Pakistan will also ensure its land is not used against Afghanistan. “We’ll have to work together for the development, prosperity, and peace in the region,” he said.

Highlighting economic cooperation, Dar announced that Pakistan’s Transit Track-and-Trade System will be operational by June 30, aiming to facilitate and enhance trade with Afghanistan. He further revealed that the IT system at the Torkham border will be activated soon to ensure smoother trade operations, underlining the importance of strengthening bilateral trade for regional development.

Dar added that both nations have agreed to address outstanding matters through dialogue, reiterating the importance of maintaining high-level engagement between the two governments.

The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to fostering mutually beneficial ties during comprehensive talks held earlier in the day. The Pakistani delegation was led by Ishaq Dar, while the Afghan side was represented by Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Discussions covered a wide range of topics including security, trade, connectivity, transit, and people-to-people exchanges.

Dar also touched on the issue of Afghan refugees, affirming that their repatriation would be carried out with dignity and respect. He acknowledged Pakistan’s long-standing hospitality towards Afghan citizens over the decades.

The visit marks a step forward in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties, with both sides agreeing on the need for continuous engagement and cooperative strategies to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
