Arif Hasan resigns as Pakistan Olympic Association president after 19 years

Lieutenant General (Retired) Arif Hasan has stepped down from his role as President of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) after serving in the position for more than 19 years.

Hasan, who assumed the presidency of POA in March 2004, confirmed his resignation through a letter dated December 28, 2023.

In his resignation letter, he expressed that the decision to step down wasn't easy, driven by the need to balance his health with the responsibilities of leading such a dynamic and impactful organization. He emphasized the importance of a smooth transition for the continuity of their commendable work and hoped for the continued success and progress of POA.

Arif Hasan, initially appointed as the head of the organizing committee for the South Asian Games in 2002, was elected as the President of POA in 2004 and served for four consecutive terms.
