Pakistan's prominent batsman Babar Azam slid two positions to secure the eighth spot in the latest ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings on Wednesday.
Babar Azam's descent to the eighth position came with 768 points, influenced by his lackluster performance during the Test series against Australia, where he managed only 126 runs across six innings. Pakistan faced a daunting 3-0 defeat against Australia during the away Test series, extending their winless streak in the country.
However, Pakistan saw notable advancements in the rankings for two players. Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan surged ten places to claim the 17th spot with 668 rating points. All-rounder Aamir Jamal concluded his debut series at the 45th position, climbing 12 spots to secure 432 points. His remarkable bowling performance, accumulating 18 wickets, contributed to this rise.
In a contrasting scenario, a star Indian batter rose three places to secure the sixth position in the ICC Test batting rankings with 775 rating points, driven by a strong showing in the two-match Test series against South Africa.
Kane Williamson, the New Zealand skipper, maintains his position at the top of the Test batting rankings with 864 points, followed by Joe Root (859) and Steve Smith (818). Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne ascended to the fourth spot with 802 points, swapping places after his standout performance against Pakistan.
