ISLAMABAD: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has secured a fresh four-year mandate to lead the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), following his unopposed re-election as chairman during the party’s intra-party elections held on Saturday.

The elections took place at the PPP’s Central Secretariat in Islamabad, as confirmed by an official statement issued by the party. The development solidifies Bilawal’s leadership of the party founded by his grandfather, former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, continuing a legacy that has shaped the country’s political landscape for decades.

In addition to Bilawal’s re-election, the party announced key appointments to several central positions. Humayun Khan was elected as secretary-general, Nadeem Afzal Chan as secretary of information, and Aamna Piracha as secretary of finance.

The intra-party elections were overseen by Fauzia Habib, who served as the election commissioner. She officially announced the results, confirming the continuation of Bilawal’s leadership for another term, which will now extend through 2029.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended warm felicitations to Bilawal on his re-election. In a congratulatory message, the premier also lauded the appointments of Humayun Khan, Nadeem Afzal Chan, and Aamna Piracha, expressing his best wishes for the new leadership team.

“The Pakistan Peoples Party has played a significant role in Pakistan’s democratic history, and I am confident it will continue to represent the aspirations of the people under the dynamic leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” the prime minister stated.

Bilawal was previously elected unopposed as the party chairman in the 2021 intra-party elections. Since assuming leadership, he has sought to modernize the party’s image and strengthen its position nationally, especially among the youth.

The PPP remains one of the country’s major political parties, with a legacy rooted in democratic struggle and social justice. With Bilawal’s renewed mandate, the party aims to gear up for future electoral challenges and expand its political footprint across Pakistan.
