HYDERABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari issued a stern warning to the federal government, threatening to quit the ruling coalition over the contentious canals project.

Addressing a massive public rally in Hyderabad on Friday, Bilawal lambasted the government’s stance on the project, which he claimed was rejected by the people of Sindh.Celebrating the PPP’s victory in the recent Umerkot by-election, Bilawal praised party workers and supporters, asserting that Sindh remains a PPP stronghold. “The people of Sindh have once again shown they stand firmly with the PPP,” he declared, noting that both Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) failed to defeat the PPP in the polls. He framed the win as a resounding message to Islamabad, reaffirming public support for the legacy of Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari.Bilawal sharply criticized the federal government, calling its officials “blind and deaf” to Sindh’s concerns.

He revealed that the controversial canals project, initially approved under PTI’s leadership, has become a flashpoint. Warning that unfair water distribution could threaten the federation’s unity, Bilawal emphasized the project’s rejection by Sindh’s voters. He also reminded the audience of his role in elevating Shehbaz Sharif to the prime minister’s office twice, underscoring his political influence.

The rally, attended by thousands, was also addressed by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other PPP leaders, who echoed Bilawal’s concerns. The event highlighted the party’s resolve to oppose the canals project and protect Sindh’s water rights, setting the stage for potential political upheaval if the government fails to address these demands.
