KARACHI: PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has voiced concerns about the sluggish pace of election result announcements following the conclusion of voting in the 2024 general election.
Taking to the microblogging platform "X" (formerly Twitter), Bilawal expressed, "Results are coming in incredibly slowly. However, the initial outcomes are quite promising!"
He further mentioned that PPP candidates and "independents whom we have supported/engaged with seem to be performing well! Let's wait to see the final count in the end."
Meanwhile, Senator Taj Haider, in charge of the PPP Central Election Cell, has penned a letter to the Election Commission (ECP) highlighting alleged irregularities in the polling process in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's (K-P) provincial assembly constituency PK-16.
According to Haider, the PPP candidate for the constituency reported that polling at the High School Timergara polling station was conducted in a non-transparent manner. He claimed that groups of 10 female voters were sent to cast votes in closed rooms, while the party's polling agents were denied entry into the polling stations.
The letter urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to promptly address the issue and issue necessary directives to the relevant authorities.
PK-16 Lower Dir-III constituency, situated in the K-P district Lower Dir, encompasses Timergara city, the district's headquarters. This district was established in 1996 when Dir District was divided into Upper Dir and Lower Dir districts. Kamranzeb Khan is the PPP candidate for PK-16, Lower Dir-III constituency.
Over time, PK-16 has witnessed changes in political alignments and party affiliations, reflecting the evolving preferences and priorities of its constituents.
Candidates from various political parties have competed for the opportunity to represent the constituency, advocating for issues such as infrastructure development, education, and healthcare.
Like many rural areas in Pakistan, the constituency has encountered governance-related challenges, poverty, and limited access to basic amenities.
Efforts by successive governments and local representatives have aimed to tackle these challenges and enhance the standard of living for PK-16 residents.
Despite its obstacles, PK-16 remains an integral part of K-P's political landscape, with its residents actively participating in the democratic process to elect representatives who can effectively advocate for their interests at the provincial level.
