Indian troops shot at Pakistani positions along the Working Boundary near Sialkot on Thursday, according to military sources.
While there was no official confirmation from the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), or local law enforcement, social media reports from locals suggested that heavy gunfire and artillery fire was heard at multiple points along the border with India in the Zafarwal sector.
According to military sources, the firing began after a Pakistani drone was shot down by Pakistani forces after attempting to cross into Indian territory.
However, Indian troops opened indiscriminate fire on Pakistani posts along the Working Boundary in an apparent attempt to cover up the failed incursion. Pakistani forces responded in kind, according to sources.
Several Pakistani users on Twitter posted videos containing sounds of heavy gun and artillery fire late at night, but these could not be independently verified.
