ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday heard a petition seeking improved prison facilities for Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail. During the proceedings, the Advocate General’s Office submitted a detailed report from the jail superintendent outlining the current amenities provided to her.
According to the report, Bushra Bibi has been allotted a separate and spacious room, furnished with a mattress, chair, table, and bookshelf. The room is equipped with basic comforts including lighting, a fan, and a room cooler to address the summer heat.
She also has access to a separate kitchen for personal cooking and an LCD television for entertainment. The report added that her meals are inspected by a medical officer, and she receives medical check-ups twice daily.
Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas presided over the hearing and instructed Bushra Bibi’s legal team, comprising advocates Usman Gul and Zahir Abbas, to review the report and present their stance at the next hearing. The case was subsequently adjourned, with the next session to be scheduled as per the court’s roster.
This development follows earlier notices issued by the IHC to the Interior Secretary and Adiala Jail Superintendent in response to Bushra Bibi’s petition. The petition demanded enhanced prison facilities for the former First Lady, citing concerns over her health and well-being.
It is also noteworthy that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have filed applications with the IHC seeking an expedited hearing of their acquittal pleas in the Toshakhana 2 case.
The case continues to attract public and legal attention, with the court now set to hear further arguments in the coming weeks after reviewing the jail’s compliance report.
