The caretaker federal cabinet in Islamabad, chaired by Caretaker PM Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, has greenlit the overhaul of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The decision comes after the presentation of recommendations by the Inter-Ministerial Committee. The restructuring involves the separation of Customs and In-Land Revenue into distinct departments, each headed by a director general. Additionally, the cabinet approved the establishment of the Federal Tax Policy Board within the Revenue Division, overseen by the finance minister.

The board, comprising federal secretaries for finance, revenue, commerce, and the chairman of NADRA, will determine tax policy and revenue targets. The federal cabinet also endorsed the digitalization of the FBR to enhance transparency within the organization. Previously, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) had given the nod to the Finance Ministry's proposal for the FBR's restructuring.
