COAS: Attempts to divide army and people will fail

In a powerful address to students from universities across Pakistan, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed the unbreakable bond between the Pakistani people and their armed forces.

He stressed that any attempts to sow discord between the army and the public would be unsuccessful, highlighting the unity that has always existed between the two and would continue to thrive in the future.

Addressing the gathering, General Munir emphasized that Pakistanis take immense pride in their religion, culture, and national identity. He rejected any attempts by anti-state elements to manipulate public opinion and create divisions between the army and the people. The army chief underscored the resilience of the Pakistani nation, especially the youth, who, he said, share an unwavering connection with the Pakistan Army. "As long as the nation, particularly the youth, stands with us, the Pakistan Army will never be defeated," he asserted.

The COAS also strongly condemned the misguided ideology of the Khawarij, a term used to describe extremist groups that misinterpret Islam. He questioned their understanding of Shariah law and religion, stating that their outdated and distorted views would never take root in Pakistan. "Which Shariah and religion do these Khawarij talk about?" General Munir asked. "They have no place in Pakistan, and we will not let their mischief prevail."

General Munir further commended the brave people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, who, he said, stand as a strong barrier against terrorism. He praised the people of these regions for their courage and resolve in the face of constant threats from extremists. The COAS emphasized that the army continues to battle the Khawarij daily, defending Pakistan's values and sovereignty. He also noted that Pakistan’s military forces fight for the security and prosperity of the nation, not only to protect the borders but to safeguard the integrity of its people.

He also addressed the issue of women’s rights, highlighting Islam's teachings on the respect and honor of women. "Islam was the first religion in the world to honor women and elevate their status—whether as a mother, wife, or sister," he explained. "These Khawarij, who misinterpret Islam, have no right to strip away this honor."

The army chief made it clear that Pakistan would never allow such extremist ideologies to flourish, asserting that those who challenge the state’s authority would face consequences. "Those who surrender to the state can expect mercy," he concluded, reaffirming the army's commitment to protecting the nation from all forms of extremism.

General Asim Munir’s remarks highlighted the Pakistan Army’s dedication to preserving peace, unity, and Islamic values in the face of rising challenges from extremist groups. The speech served as a reminder of the deep bond between the army and the Pakistani people, particularly the youth, and the collective resolve to safeguard the nation's future.
