KARACHI: A trial court has extended the physical remand of two accused in the Mustafa Amir abduction and murder case by five days. The accused, Armaghan Qureshi and Sheeraz, remain in custody as investigations continue.
During the hearing, Armaghan collapsed in the courtroom, claiming he had been beaten. The court inquired about the need for further remand, to which the investigation officer responded that 62 laptops and USBs had been recovered and required forensic analysis.
The court denied requests from Armaghan’s mother and Sheeraz’s sister to meet the accused. Meanwhile, on court orders, a medical team from the Sindh health department exhumed Mustafa Amir’s body for DNA analysis. Police Surgeon Dr. Sumayya Syed stated that 11 samples have been sent to the Sindh Forensic DNA Lab, as determining the cause of death remains difficult.
Mustafa Amir was kidnapped and allegedly murdered by his friends in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on January 6. According to police, the suspects placed his body in the trunk of his car and set it on fire in the Hub area of Balochistan.
Police reported that Armaghan has confessed to the crime, with his statement recorded on video. He admitted to driving Mustafa’s car from Khayaban-e-Mohafiz to Dareji and later setting the vehicle on fire while the victim was still semi-conscious. Investigations are ongoing as authorities analyze evidence and await forensic results.
