ISLAMABAD: In a swift hearing presided over by Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain, a special court has mandated the appearance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on November 28 in the cipher case.
The hearing, complying with Islamabad High Court (IHC) directives, occurred at the Judicial Complex in G-11 instead of Adiala jail.
During the brief session, lawyers Ali Bukhari and Khalid Yousaf represented the case. The judge requested a copy of the Islamabad High Court's divisional bench order, which was promptly provided.
The court adjourned the hearing, instructing jail authorities to present Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the former prime minister and PTI chief, before the court on Tuesday.
Earlier, on November 21, the Islamabad High Court had deemed the jail trial in the cipher case illegal, including all proceedings since August 29, including the indictment. The court invalidated the law ministry's August 29 notification allowing the jail trial, citing it as "without lawful authority and having no legal effect.
