ISLAMABAD: The Defense Ministry has contested the Supreme Court's decision halting civilians' trials in military courts and urged the reinstatement of sections within the Official Secrets Act (OSA) that were rescinded.

In a petition, the ministry seeks a reversal of the court's ruling limiting military trials for civilians involved in the May 9 attacks on army installations. It also appeals for the reinstatement of previously removed sections of the OSA and section 59(4) of the Army Act.

Requesting a stay order on the cessation of civilians' trials in military courts until final appeals are decided, the ministry highlights the potential irreversible harm to the country due to the repeal of these provisions.

Additionally, the Shuhada Forum Balochistan has submitted a plea to the apex court, advocating for the restoration of military courts. The forum asserts that nullifying these courts goes against Pakistan's constitutional principles and laws, emphasizing the anger among families of martyrs following the May 9 incidents.
