KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar convened a high-level meeting at the Karachi Police Office to discuss the city's law-and-order situation.
During the meeting, the Karachi Police Chief, Additional Inspector General Imran Yaqoob Minhas, suggested establishing a squad similar to Lahore's Dolphin Force to tackle street crime. He proposed providing 1,800 motorcycles for patrolling, along with 1,100 vehicles, 2,000 pistols, and 5,000 anti-riot kits for the motorcycle force.
Additionally, he recommended recruiting 9,200 policemen for Karachi. The Additional IG highlighted the police's efforts in protecting foreign nationals, including Chinese citizens, and claimed a gradual decrease in incidents like car and mobile phone snatching due to effective policing and continuous anti-crime measures.
He announced plans for monthly meetings to address law and order issues. The Dolphin Force, initiated in 2016 by former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, serves as an elite unit of the Punjab police dedicated to combating street crime.
