In a significant development ahead of the upcoming general elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) revealed its preliminary list of new electoral constituencies, based on the 2023 digital census.
Despite initially planning to release the list on October 10, the commission completed its work 15 days ahead of schedule. Consequently, the preliminary delimitation lists were submitted to the ECP for publication on Tuesday.
Objections to the constituency designations will be accepted until October 26, with hearings scheduled to begin by November 25.
The final lists are scheduled for release on November 30. The ECP has already confirmed that the elections will take place in the last week of January 2024.
According to the ECP, the number of seats in the national and provincial assemblies will remain unchanged. This includes 266 seats in the National Assembly, 297 in the Punjab Assembly, 130 in the Sindh Assembly, 115 in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and 51 in the Balochistan Assembly.
The ECP, in its press release, noted that maps outlining the initial delimitation are available on its website.
