The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to conduct the contempt case hearing against former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, where he is currently incarcerated.

This decision comes after the ECP faced difficulties in bringing Khan to the commission for the proceedings due to security concerns raised by the interior ministry and Islamabad police.

The ECP had issued contempt notices to Khan and other PTI leaders last year for allegedly using inappropriate language against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja. The case has been pending since 2022, with Khan repeatedly seeking adjournments and failing to appear despite summons and warrants.

Given the challenges in securing Khan's presence at the ECP, the commission has opted to hold the hearing at Adiala Jail on December 13. This decision aims to expedite the proceedings and bring the case to a resolution.

The ECP's determination to proceed with the case despite logistical hurdles underscores its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for actions that undermine the electoral process.
