Eidul Fitr 2025 holidays announced: March 31 - April 2

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced the official dates for the Eidul Fitr 2025 holidays. According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the holidays will begin on Monday, March 31, and continue until Wednesday, April 2.

Eidul Fitr 2025 is expected to be celebrated across Pakistan on March 31, marking the end of Ramadan after 29 days of fasting. The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has confirmed that the Shawwal crescent is likely to be visible on the evening of Sunday, March 30, provided the weather is clear.

Khalid Ijaz Mufti, Secretary General of the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, shared details of the moon sighting process. He confirmed that the new moon will be born on Saturday, March 29, at 3:58 PM Pakistan time. By the time of sunset on Sunday, March 30, the moon will be more than 26 hours old, making it visible to the naked eye across most of the country.

Mufti emphasized that the moon must be at least 18 hours old at sunset to be sighted, and with the moon’s age exceeding this threshold, there should be no difficulty in confirming the crescent. Additionally, the time between sunset and moonset will exceed 40 minutes, further ensuring visibility.

Assuming clear skies, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council expects a smooth moon sighting, confirming the start of Eidul Fitr celebrations on March 31. The announcement of the public holidays ensures that citizens will be able to celebrate the occasion with family and friends, enjoying a break from work and daily routines.
