ISLAMABAD: Former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was rearrested on Tuesday in the federal capital, hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his detention under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and ordered his release.
The court also issued notices to Islamabad chief and deputy commissioners, among others, for a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
It also directed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president to appear for tomorrow's hearing and instructed him to refrain from making any statements prior to it.
Following court's directive, Elahi's lawyers, Sardar Abdul Razzaq and Sardar Shahbaz, reached Police Lines Islamabad. However, the security personnel stationed at the central gate initially prevented their entry, resulting in a heated exchange. Eventually, they were granted access.
The lawyers handed the court’s order to the police authorities, which led to his release. However, as soon as he stepped outside, the former chief minister was once again taken into custody.
