LAHORE: A Lahore district and sessions court has turned down the police's request to extend the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Pervaiz Elahi in a case involving alleged illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly.
The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had apprehended Pervaiz Elahi on charges related to the appointment of Muhammad Khan Bhatti as his principal secretary during his tenure as chief minister. Pervaiz Elahi, who has faced multiple arrests in various cases following a crackdown on the PTI, was presented before the court of Duty Judge Amir Raza. In a reserved verdict, the judge rejected the police's request for an extension of Elahi's physical remand, and Pervaiz Elahi has been sent to jail on judicial remand.
In the previous hearing, the Lahore sessions court had extended Pervaiz Elahi's physical remand in the illegal appointment case for an additional two days.
