KARACHI: In a significant development, the Sindh Accountant General (AG) Office has disbursed funds to clear Chinese-imported buses, facilitating the expansion of Karachi's People’s Bus Service fleet.

The buses, initially imported during the tenure of the former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, had been held up at Karachi Port. The augmentation of the fleet is anticipated to alleviate the commuting challenges faced by the city’s residents.

Following intervention by Sindh's Caretaker Chief Minister, Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, who took note of the delay, the funds were released. The CM directed the Sindh AG to promptly allocate the necessary amount for this purpose, cautioning that any defects or deterioration found in these buses would hold the Accountant General accountable, as stated in a Monday statement from the CM Secretariat.

Responding to the warning, the Sindh AG Office has released the funds required for the buses' release.

CM Baqar stressed the urgency of implementing the Circular Railway and ensuring the completion of all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines to effectively address Karachi's public transportation issues. He also pledged to engage with the federal government for swift approval of the BRT Red Line Corridor by ECNEC.
