On Sunday, former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was arrested from a private housing society in Rawalpindi, according to a private news channel.
Sources say that Rashid, a close ally of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested by Islamabad Police along with two others, including his nephew. He was arrested from Phase 3 of the housing society.
Rashid's lawyer, Sardar Abdul Razzak Khan, confirmed the arrest, saying that Islamabad Police officers and several people in plainclothes arrived at Rashid's residence and took him away.
Khan also said that Rashid and his two nephews have been taken to an undisclosed location.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Rasheed's nephew and former MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafiq said in a video statement that his uncle was not wanted by the police in any case.
