Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry faced indictment in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) contempt case during a hearing held at Adiala Jail, where he is currently detained.

The indictment involved a formal reading of charges against the accused in court, leading to an adjournment of the hearing until January 16.

The ECP had previously issued notices in August 2022 to the PTI founder and others over alleged use of disrespectful language directed at Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral body. The leaders had consistently criticized the commission and CEC Sikandar Raja, referring to the electoral body as a "subsidiary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz".
