ISLAMABAD: The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has initiated the formation of three special committees with the aim of creating a single sales tax portal to enhance citizen convenience. Each committee comprises 10 officers.

According to a recent notification by the Chairman of the FBR, the supervisory committee includes grade-21 government officers, namely Dr. Nassir (Member IT) and Ardsher Saleem (Reform Member of grade 21). Meanwhile, the implementation committee comprises grade-20 government officers, including Zainul Abideen and Muhammad Khalid (Director Program).

The caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, emphasized the government's priority to broaden the tax base during a recent meeting. He instructed relevant departments to collaborate in implementing tax reforms and enhance coordination between federal and provincial governments for efficient tax documentation. PM Kakar underscored the significance of the FBR in the government's machinery and called for compliance with legal obligations to expedite the privatization of loss-making state-owned enterprises.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that the FBR is committed to achieving the tax collection target of Rs9415 billion, with successful revenue collection exceeding targets in both July and August. The FBR has witnessed a 38.7 percent increase in domestic tax collection in 2023-24 compared to the previous year. Additionally, digital tools are being employed to boost the tax-to-GDP ratio, and the FBR's database is being integrated with other departments.
