ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan strongly rejected the remarks made by Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), calling them misleading and baseless.
Speaking at his weekly press briefing, Ambassador Shafqat condemned Jaishankar’s statement, which was delivered at Chatham House in London on March 5, 2025, as a deliberate distortion of facts.
He reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory, and its final status must be decided through a United Nations-supervised plebiscite, as mandated by the UNSC resolutions. The spokesperson emphasized that no unilateral claim or misrepresentation can change the historical and legal status of the Kashmir issue.
The Foreign Office urged India to respect international law and commitments under the UN framework rather than resorting to propaganda. Pakistan remains committed to supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and will continue to raise the issue at all international forums.
