KARACHI: Former Sindh Transport Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced the arrival of a new batch of buses for the People's Bus Service (Phase 2) in Karachi.
These brand-new buses, which were procured by the PPP-led Sindh Government, following Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's directives, are set to soon enhance the city's public transport system.
To address the acute shortage of passenger buses in Karachi, the Sindh government has taken this initiative. According to the World Bank's report, the city currently operates just over 1,000 buses. During a briefing to the Caretaker Finance, Planning, and Development Minister Muhammad Younus Dagha, Sindh government transport officials revealed that Karachi requires a total of 15,000 buses to establish a comprehensive transport system. However, at present, there are only 1,029 buses in operation on the city's roads, including 240 from the People's Bus Service, 100 from the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and 689 older buses run by the private sector
