The caretaker federal government of Pakistan has established a deadline of November 1 for illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the country or face deportation, according to reports from a private news agency.
Following a National Apex Committee meeting in Islamabad, Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti announced the deadline and the formation of a task force to take action against illegal immigrants. Bugti expressed concern that Pakistan is allowing entry to individuals without passports and noted that assets owned by illegal immigrants would be confiscated. A web portal is also being created for reporting illegal activities related to smuggling, with promises of confidentiality for those providing information.
The Apex committee meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, also discussed recent terror attacks in Pakistan and measures to combat terrorism and address the issue of illegal immigrants.
The meeting resolved to set a deadline for the return of illegal foreigners, with their property subject to seizure after the deadline passes. COAS General Asim Munir affirmed that Pakistan's armed forces would continue their operations against terrorists without pause until terrorism is eradicated from the country.
