ISLAMABAD: The interim government in Pakistan has opted to introduce a new gas tariff specifically for the export industry.
The decision appears to involve a reconsideration of a previously proposed gas tariff of Rs 2600 per MMBtu for non-export industries. Reports suggest that an emergency meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has been scheduled to ratify these new recommendations.
These recommendations include setting the gas tariff for non-export industries at a range of 2100 to 2200 MMBtu, effectively reducing the tariff increase from 1400 to 900. As of November 1, the new gas tariff is expected to come into effect.
Presently, the gas tariff for the export industry stands at Rs 1100 per MMBtu. The decision to defer the gas price hike was made by the federal cabinet, and the authorities have been directed to further deliberate on the matter.
