ISLAMABAD: The federal government has declared Wednesday, February 5, 2025, a public holiday in observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day. The announcement was made in a notification issued by the government to express support for the people of Kashmir.
On this day, all public and private banks across the country will remain closed. The State Bank of Pakistan also confirmed the holiday, emphasizing its alignment with Kashmir Solidarity Day. The day is observed annually to highlight the struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination and to express solidarity with their ongoing fight against Indian military occupation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Across Pakistan, conferences, rallies, and demonstrations will be held to raise awareness of the human rights violations and atrocities carried out by Indian forces in the disputed region. These events aim to shed light on the seven-decade-long struggle of the Kashmiri people.
The Kashmir issue remains a major point of contention between Pakistan and India, with Pakistan continuing to advocate for an international plebiscite in accordance with United Nations resolutions. In 2019, India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A, which granted the region autonomy, further escalating tensions.
