The Punjab government has established a committee to investigate cases of vision loss reportedly linked to locally manufactured injections.
Approximately 40 diabetes patients in Lahore suffered vision impairment due to what is believed to be substandard injections. Chaudhry Manzoor of the Pakistan Peoples Party disclosed that his brother and a friend experienced vision problems after receiving these injections.
In response to the eye infection incidents, Punjab's Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Dr. Jamal Nasir, took action by assembling a five-member committee. This committee, led by Dr. Asad Aslam Khan from King Edward Medical University, includes members such as Muhammad Sohail from Director General Drugs Control, Dr. Muhammad Moin from Mayo Hospital, Dr. Tayyaba from Lahore General Hospital, and Prof Dr. Mohsin from Services Hospital. The committee has been tasked with providing a report within three days.
These cases have been linked to the administration of Avastin injections to address retinal damage among diabetic patients in Lahore, Kasur, and Jhang districts. Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan has stated that a locally manufactured injection has been recalled from the market, and legal action has been taken against the suppliers. The five-member committee will conduct a thorough analysis of the situation and submit its report within three days.
