Grace marks announced for Karachi Inter students who failed exams

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly’s parliamentary committee has announced that grace marks will be awarded to first-year intermediate students in Karachi who failed their annual exams, following an investigation into the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) procedures. The decision was made during a meeting on Tuesday.

The move comes after a fact-finding committee, led by Dr. Sarosh Lodi, submitted a report that raised concerns over BIEK’s administrative processes and exam conduct. The report found several irregularities in the way exams were managed, which led to poor results for many students.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah explained that the findings of the report pointed to significant discrepancies between the students' performance in their matriculation exams and their first-year intermediate results. He noted that many students who had performed well in their matric exams saw a drastic decline in their first-year results, which raised questions about the fairness of the process.

To address this, the Sindh government has decided to award grace marks to the affected students. Specifically, students will be given 15% grace marks in Physics and Mathematics, while 20% grace marks will be granted in Chemistry. The aim of this decision is to correct the injustice students faced due to the flawed exam procedures.

Minister Shah also assured that BIEK's structure and exam format would be revised, and appropriate action would be taken against those responsible for the failures. This step is expected to provide relief to students and restore confidence in the examination system.
