KARACHI: Sindh Assembly Member-elect and Karachi Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, declared his resignation from the PS-129 constituency on Monday.
Rehman cited discrepancies in the election results, stating that although he received 26,000 votes according to Form 45, he was declared the winner with 30,464 votes. He acknowledged that an independent candidate supported by PTI garnered more votes than him and attributed his decision to step down to the allegedly rigged results.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, who also serves as the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami in Karachi, had emerged victorious in the Sindh Assembly election for PS-129, Karachi Central-VIII, according to unofficial results announced by the Returning Officer/Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday. Prior to his resignation, Jamaat-e-Islami had announced plans for sit-in protests outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office, demanding a comprehensive review of the 2024 general election results.
All three Jamaat-e-Islami National Assembly candidates expressed concerns regarding the general election results and vowed to hold protests. The party formally requested the rectification of results through Form 45, citing doubts about the accuracy and fairness of the election outcome. Form 45 is a crucial document in the election process, containing the consolidated statement of the results of the count in a polling station.
