Islamabad High Court (IHC) has initiated proceedings in response to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief's plea for post-arrest bail in the cipher case. The notices were issued to respondents, including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), during the hearing challenging a recent special court's decision.
The special court, operating under the Official Secrets Act, had previously rejected PTI chief's post-arrest bail applications related to the missing cipher case. The petition for bail was filed by the PTI chairman and scheduled for today's hearing.
Representing the PTI chief, lawyer Salman Safdar urged for an expedited hearing. IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq responded by emphasizing the importance of following due procedure and ensuring a fair decision. The case is now scheduled for a hearing on September 25.
The PTI chairman had been incarcerated on August 5 following his conviction in the Toshakhana case, with his sentence being suspended by the IHC on August 29. However, the special court directed the Attock jail authorities to maintain him in "judicial lockup" in connection with the cipher case.
