Karachi: An alleged illegal water connection was discovered near Maddrass Chowk, Scheme 33, where the main road was reportedly being dug up for a connection to a two-story building. Metro1 News senior journalist and special correspondent Akhtar Shaheen Rind arrived on-site to cover the news. During this, the concerned assistant executive engineer, Irfanullah, was also informed.
When the culprits present at the site were asked to produce the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) challan receipt and road-cutting permit, they became agitated and physically assaulted journalist Akhtar Shaheen Rind. They slapped and kicked him, causing harm.
According to sources, the water connection was being installed without any legal approval and in violation of KWSC regulations.
The Metro1 team immediately informed Madadgar-15 (police helpline), and police arrived on the scene, arresting two suspects, Dilbar Khan and Fazal Muhammad. The suspects could not provide any legal receipt for the connection or a road-cutting permit. No officials or staff from KWSC were present at the scene during the incident. The suspects also threatened the Metro1 team in front of the police.
Later, KWSC's Assistant Executive Engineer Imran Malik, along with officials Samad and others, arrived at the Sachal Police Station, where a case (FIR No. 469/2025) was registered against the suspects under charges of water theft and illegal connection. Meanwhile, the suspects' family members and relatives also issued threats to KWSC officers and employees present at the police station.
