In a major update, a special Attock court has extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi until September 26 in the ongoing cipher case.
The case, involving a classified state document, is being presided over by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain at Attock District Jail, under the Official Secrets Act 2023. This extension received approval from the Law Ministry, addressing security concerns from the Interior Ministry.
Imran Khan, initially jailed on August 5 for the Toshakhana case, had his sentence suspended by Islamabad High Court on August 29. However, he remains in 'judicial lockup' for the cipher case. Meanwhile, IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has reserved judgment on Imran Khan's petition challenging the cipher case trial location at Attock jail, seeking an explanation from the respondents.
