Imran wanted military as party 'subsidiary': Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, accusing him of attempting to turn the military into a “subsidiary” of his party.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Asif condemned PTI’s political approach, alleging that the party prioritized personal interests over national welfare. He claimed that PTI’s frustration had increased as the country moved toward economic stability, stating, “After being deprived of power, PTI is now licking its wounds.”

Asif also highlighted Pakistan’s strong diplomatic, military, and economic ties with the United Kingdom, calling the relationship “exemplary.” He underscored the importance of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir’s visit to the UK in strengthening bilateral military cooperation.

Discussing past political unrest, Asif referred to the events of May 9 and November 26, alleging that these incidents were orchestrated for “nefarious purposes.” He reiterated that attacks on national assets and martyrs’ memorials were undeniable and emphasized that PTI’s actions had been exposed to the public.

He further stated that Pakistan is on the path to stability due to the government’s economic policies. “Alhamdulillah, all conspiracies against the country will fail,” he asserted, accusing PTI leaders of prioritizing personal gain over genuine politics.

Meanwhile, PTI founder Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, reiterated that he would not seek any deal with the government, according to his sister, Aleema Khan. Reports suggest backchannel talks with the establishment, though no confirmation has emerged.

COAS Asim Munir recently dismissed claims of receiving a letter from Imran Khan, stating that if such a letter arrived, he would forward it to the prime minister rather than read it.
