Islamabad: Just a day after a severe hailstorm swept across the capital, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued another weather advisory, warning of potentially unstable conditions returning to Islamabad.
According to a PMD official who spoke to ProPakistani, the capital could experience strong winds, dust storms, and a possible second round of hail as early as tomorrow. While the intensity of the incoming system is expected to be less severe than the one witnessed on Wednesday, residents are advised to stay cautious and monitor official updates.
“The system is still active, and while the core of it is weakening, there’s still a good chance of isolated hailstorms and gusty winds in and around Islamabad,” said the official. He added that weather models suggest intermittent activity with periods of calm, followed by short but sharp bursts of rain, wind, and possibly hail.
Wednesday’s storm caused widespread disruption across the city, damaging vehicles, trees, and rooftops in several sectors. Social media was flooded with videos and images showing hail the size of golf balls covering roads and green belts, with many residents caught off guard by the storm's sudden intensity.
Emergency services were called in to clear debris, and several areas reported brief power outages due to fallen trees and electric poles. While no casualties were reported, the storm left a trail of damage and raised concerns about preparedness for such extreme weather events.
The PMD has urged citizens, especially those commuting or working outdoors, to stay updated through its official channels and take necessary precautions. Motorists are advised to drive carefully in low visibility and slippery conditions, and people living in low-lying areas have been warned about potential waterlogging.
As Islamabad heads into another potentially stormy day, residents are keeping a wary eye on the skies, hoping that the worst of the weather has passed — but preparing just in case it hasn’t.
