At least 10 terrorists were killed in five separate operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing, ISPR, reported on Friday.
An intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out in the Khulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan, where troops successfully engaged and eliminated four terrorists. Meanwhile, four separate encounters took place in North Waziristan, in areas including Datta Khel, Hassan Khel, Ghulam Khan, and Mir Ali. During these exchanges of fire, six more terrorists were neutralized.
The ISPR stated that the terrorists killed were actively involved in various attacks against security forces and innocent civilians in the region. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
Sanitisation operations are ongoing to clear the area of any remaining terrorists. The military's media wing emphasized Pakistan's determination to eliminate terrorism from the country. These operations are part of a broader effort to tackle the surge in violence, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
The year 2024 has been the deadliest for Pakistan’s security forces in a decade, with over 685 fatalities and 444 terror attacks. The violence has particularly impacted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which saw 1,616 fatalities, the highest in the country, followed by Balochistan with 782 fatalities. In total, 2,546 deaths and 2,267 injuries were reported due to terror-related incidents and counter-terror operations.
