KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced a countrywide shutter-down strike on April 22 to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. The announcement came during his address at a Gaza solidarity march in Karachi, where he condemned the ongoing violence and injustice against the Palestinian people.

Addressing the crowd, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman highlighted the growing international support for Palestine, citing countries like South Africa and Ireland that have actively opposed Zionist forces. He emphasized the need for collective action, stating, "But when those who watch the spectacle become the spectacle themselves, who will come to their aid? The mask has come off the face of the West, the imperialist mind has become clear, and conscientious people in the West have risen against them."

Rehman further stressed the significance of the upcoming nationwide strike, saying, “On April 22, there will be a complete shutter-down strike across the country to show our solidarity with the Palestinians. Every shop and business will remain closed to highlight the severity of the Palestinian cause.”

In addition to the shutter-down strike, JI also announced solidarity marches in Multan on April 18 and in Islamabad on April 20. These marches are aimed at raising awareness and rallying support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for justice and freedom.

The JI leader also criticized the international community for its inaction, particularly the United Nations, stating that the United Nations Charter had been flagrantly violated due to the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. He commended the resilience of Palestinian resistance groups, such as Hamas and the Al-Qassam Brigades, for their efforts in thwarting Israeli military technology and continuing to resist occupation.

Rehman’s statements and the planned actions reflect Jamaat-e-Islami’s strong stance on Palestine and their commitment to mobilizing public support for the cause. The party's call for a shutter-down strike is expected to garner significant attention across Pakistan.
