LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will observe a black day on February 8, as announced by the party's chief, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, in a statement on Thursday. The JI has planned a strong protest outside the Election Commission's office in Karachi, highlighting their dissatisfaction with the electoral process.
Hafiz Naeem urged that the formation of a judicial commission to address the alleged electoral irregularities would help streamline the situation. He emphasized that the commission should make decisions based on Form 45, the document used to record the results of individual polling stations. However, he expressed concerns that the government had no intention of tackling the issue in this manner, and the opposition was also not prepared to launch a movement based on Form 45.
The JI chief criticized the suggestion of holding fresh elections, asserting that it would only serve to strengthen the government and endorse the rigging that took place in the previous elections. Hafiz Naeem has been vocal about the alleged rigging and irregularities in the 2024 elections, which were held on February 8 of the previous year.
In a protest against the discrepancies, he vacated his Sindh Assembly seat from Karachi, pointing out the vote count discrepancies that favored his opponent. He has continuously emphasized the importance of ensuring a fair and just electoral process for the future of the country.
