KARACHI: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced the postponement of the annual intermediate examinations for 2025, originally scheduled to begin on April 28. The exams will now commence on May 5.
This decision was made following directives from the BIEK chairman, who cited two primary reasons for the delay. Firstly, the process of awarding grace marks in mathematics, chemistry, and physics for the 2024 first-year science pre-medical, pre-engineering, and general science groups has not yet been completed. Secondly, several examination centres are still being used for matriculation exams, which started on April 8 and will continue until May 8.
According to officials, the overlap between the intermediate and matriculation exams required adjustments to ensure that examination centres are available and the exam system remains well-organized.
Students, educational institutions, and parents have been advised to continue their preparations based on the new exam schedule. The BIEK has assured that any further updates or changes will be communicated via its official website (www.biek.edu.pk) and its verified social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
In a related development, the Sindh government's Department of Universities and Boards issued an official notification on April 25 granting grace marks to students appearing in the Intermediate Part-I (Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering) annual examinations for 2024. Students in key science subjects, such as Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, will be awarded between 15% and 20% grace marks.
The decision was approved by the provincial cabinet on April 15 and is part of efforts to support students. Specifically, Chemistry students will receive 20% grace marks, while Physics and Mathematics students will receive 15% each.
It is also important to note that the Karachi Board of Intermediate Education is currently being temporarily chaired by the Chairman of the Karachi Matriculation Board, as the position of permanent chairman remains vacant.
