Karachi braces for scorching heat as temperature hits 40°C

KARACHI: Karachi residents are in for a sweltering weekend, with temperatures expected to soar to 40°C on Sunday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and dry weather to persist for the next three days, with intermittent strong winds predicted for today and tomorrow. This heat spell is part of a larger wave impacting Sindh, with extreme temperatures expected in various regions.

Heatwave Conditions Intensify

The PMD had predicted highs ranging from 37°C to 39°C on Friday and Saturday, and their forecast held true as the heatwave conditions intensified. Other areas in Sindh, such as Chhor, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mithi, and Mohenjo Daro, have also recorded scorching temperatures, reaching up to 41°C.

Regional Weather Patterns

The current weather pattern is influenced by continental air from the western region, bringing wind speeds of 14km/h and humidity levels around 67%. As the day progresses, the 'feels like' temperature is projected to reach a blistering 42°C. Residents are advised to prepare for sustained heat with minor fluctuations until the onset of monsoon rains.²

Health Precautions

To combat the oppressive heat, residents are recommended to:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
- Seek Shade: Avoid direct sun exposure, especially during peak hours.
- Minimize Outdoor Activities: Limit outdoor activities to avoid heat exhaustion.
