KARACHI: Karachi is experiencing severe traffic congestion as large crowds head to markets for Ramadan 2025 preparations. Major roads and intersections, including Natha Khan Flyover, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, Liaquatabad Super Market, Lea Market, and Saddar Empress Market, are witnessing gridlocks.
Other affected areas include Karsaz to Civic Centre, Essa Nagri Lyari Expressway, and Dalmia to Johar Mor, where heavy traffic has caused delays for commuters. The surge in shopping activity ahead of Ramadan has led to overcrowded roads, with markets bustling with buyers preparing for the holy month.
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet in Peshawar on February 28 to determine the sighting of the Ramadan moon. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a strong possibility of the moon being sighted on March 1, 2025. If confirmed, the first day of fasting will be observed on Sunday, March 2.
Ramadan-ul-Mubarak, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time of fasting, spiritual reflection, and self-discipline. Muslims worldwide observe fasting by abstaining from eating, drinking, and negative speech while engaging in prayer, Quran recitation, and acts of charity.
With the beginning of Ramadan approaching, market activity is expected to further intensify, adding to traffic challenges in the city. Authorities are urged to implement traffic management strategies to ease congestion.
