In Karachi, the deadline for submission of nomination papers for national and provincial assembly seats closed today. A total of 1405 nomination papers have been filed for Karachi's National and Sindh Assembly seats.

Among these, 1072 nominations were filed for 47 Sindh Assembly seats, while 333 were submitted for 22 National Assembly seats in the city.

Additionally, over 400 nomination papers have been lodged for special seats reserved for women and minorities in Sindh. Starting tomorrow, election officials will commence the scrutiny process for the candidates' papers.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), responding to appeals from several political parties, extended the nomination papers' filing deadline until today, December 24. According to the updated schedule, the scrutiny of these papers will take place from Monday through the 30th of this month.

Any appeals regarding the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until January 3, with decisions expected by January 10. The ECP plans to release the updated list of candidates on January 11, with candidates having until January 12 to withdraw their papers.

Furthermore, the allocation of electoral symbols is scheduled for January 13, while the polling date has been set for February 8.
