KARACHI: During his inaugural visit to Karachi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced the allocation of 150 buses for the city.
This decision came after Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon requested 300 buses during a high-level meeting. However, the Prime Minister stated that the federal government would provide 150 buses to augment the existing fleet of the Sindh transport department.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also praised the efforts of the Sindh government in improving transportation services for the public during his inspection of the Sindh government’s transport system.
Regarding the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, the Chief Minister informed the Prime Minister that a revised feasibility study was conducted in 2023 and shared with the relevant authorities. He urged the Prime Minister to expedite the framework agreement for the execution of the KCR under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and to grant the "Right of Way" (RoW) of the KCR to the Sindh government.
In response, the Prime Minister instructed the Planning Minister to address the hurdles in the KCR project's implementation.
The high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, was held at the Chief Minister’s House and attended by federal ministers and officials, along with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and provincial representatives.
