Khan and Alvi at odds over election date

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, is upset with President Arif Alvi for not announcing the date of the next general election. Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, revealed this to journalists on Wednesday.

Aleema Khan also claimed that she is being considered a criminal for taking the name of Donald Lu, a US diplomat who the PTI believes was behind the ouster of Khan's government. She said that she is ready to be arrested.

The Lahore police have sought the arrest of PTI leader Asad Umar and two sisters of the PTI chairman in the May 9 violence cases. The Lahore High Court has extended their interim bails till October 16.

President Alvi has denied Khan's accusation that he failed to perform his constitutional obligations by not announcing the election date. He has stated that he wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan on September 6, asking for elections to be held before November 6, but that the ECP has not taken any action on his request.

Sources say that Alvi is disappointed that none of his colleagues in the PTI have supported him or spoken out on his behalf in the face of criticism.
