Karachi: Students of Karachi Medical University (KMU) staged a peaceful protest against the recent fee hike, including examination fees, which they claim is the highest among all government universities.
However, the protest took a disturbing turn when police attempted to thwart the demonstration, using intimidation tactics to silence the students. Witnesses reported that police officials threatened the protesters, warning them of "consequences" if they continued to demonstrate.
The students, undeterred by the police's strong-arm tactics, continued their protest, demanding that the government take immediate action to reverse the fee hike.
"This is a blatant attempt to stifle our voices and suppress our democratic right to protest," said one of the protesting students. "We condemn the police's actions and demand that the government takes notice of this incident."
The KMU administration has defended the fee hike, citing increasing operational costs and infrastructure expenses. However, the students argue that the hike is unjustified and will disproportionately affect students from low-income backgrounds.
The protest has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for the government to intervene and reverse the fee hike.
