Pakistan's renowned fashion designer and entrepreneur, Maria B, has responded to the recent Aurat March Lahore protest, which took place on February 12, coinciding with Pakistan's National Women's Day. The protest saw demonstrators march from the Press Club to Faletti’s Hotel, with some carrying banners targeting Maria B and former actress Mishi Khan.
In her response, Maria B dismissed the protest, referring to it as the "Qaum e Lout March" and the "Unsuccessful Women’s March." She expressed that the people of Pakistan had rejected such protests, and voiced her disappointment at the actions of the protesters.
Maria B also criticized the organizers of the march, suggesting that their efforts were driven by foreign funding and an ulterior agenda. She expressed her belief that the majority of Pakistani women prefer to live in accordance with Islamic teachings, aiming for independence and success to support their families, rather than aligning themselves with those she described as unsuccessful in their careers.
Her remarks have sparked further debate, as Maria continues to champion the idea that women should focus on being strong contributors to their families and communities, rather than participating in movements she perceives as controversial. Maria's response highlights the ongoing discourse about the direction and purpose of women’s rights movements in Pakistan.
