Monkeypox Hits Sindh: First confirmed case reported in Karachi

KARACHI: Karachi has reported Sindh's first confirmed case of monkeypox, sending health authorities into high alert. A 28-year-old resident of Shah Latif Town, Karachi, has been diagnosed with the virus and is currently isolated at Jinnah Hospital.

According to health department sources, the patient's samples were sent to Dow Hospital for laboratory testing, which confirmed the presence of the virus. The patient's wife had recently traveled abroad and exhibited symptoms of monkeypox before her husband contracted the infection.

Health officials have assured that strict precautionary measures are in place to prevent the further spread of the virus. The public has been urged to remain vigilant and adhere to health guidelines to curb the transmission of monkeypox in the region.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has also confirmed the case, stating that the patient is a young male who recently traveled abroad and was isolated after showing symptoms of the virus at the Jinnah International Airport.
