Karachi: MQM-P's Rabta Committee has refuted claims of engaging in power-sharing negotiations and proposed the option of sitting on opposition benches if its demands aren't met.

As per reports from a private TV channel, a meeting of MQM-P's Rabta Committee deliberated negotiations with PML-N regarding government formation at the federal level.

The committee discussed whether to join the government or opt for the opposition benches if MQM-P's principles aren't acknowledged. The party had requested the continuation of Kamran Tessori as Sindh's governor as part of the proposed arrangement. They were also briefed on the constitutional amendment sought for government formation.

Furthermore, the committee emphasized resolving matters with PML-N before the National Assembly's swearing-in ceremony, with a final decision pending negotiations.

Earlier, MQM-P and PML-N reiterated their commitment to prioritizing national interests over political expediency during a meeting between MQM-P delegation and PML-N President, Shehbaz Sharif. Sharif commended MQM-P's positive strategy, emphasizing collective responsibility in guiding the nation through economic challenges.

On February 19, MQM-P had demanded empowered local governments in Sindh to join the coalition government at the center led by PML-N. They sought PML-N's support for three proposed constitutional amendments aimed at empowering local governments.
